The RBH is committed to implementing green, eco-friendly practices. We strive to, as much as practical, reduce our waste and source responsibly & sustainably.

How do we minimize our environmental impact?
Paper & Plastic
No plastic water bottles and minimal single use plastics.
The RBH does use plastic shopping bags to lines the bathroom waste bins.
All other plastic film products are saved to donate to the Girls Scouts for credit for a Trex bench.
All paper products are recycled, FSC certified, or bamboo and arrived wrapped in paper, not plastic.
We recycle.

Guest Rooms
No individual shampoos or conditioners. We are proud to provide Giovanni Eco Chic 50:50 Balanced products. They are vegan, color-safe, and Leaping Bunny Certified.

In guest rooms, we minimize cleaning chemicals in favor of non-toxic and natural products.

The showerheads are Delta In2ition with pause feature to conserve water.
​
The RBH uses a tea tree-derived gel to naturally freshen the air.

Kitchen
The majority of food served at the RBH is either locally grown or produced, organic, or salvaged through Misfits Market (Imperfect Foods).

We source our bacon & ham from Yard Bull Meats.
​
We proudly serve H&C coffee.
We compost with Star City Compost.
Some of Our Partners
Star City Compost offers drop-off or weekly pickup options and accepts ALL food waste as well as other compostable items.

Much of the produce and fresh eggs served from spring through fall is sourced from the local non-profit LEAP. In addition to coordinating the CSA program, LEAP's other programs provide affordable food access to grow healthy communities.

Misfits Market is another source of produce, some proteins and other pantry goods. They sell excess, upcycled, and rescued (wrong shape, size, color, etc) items that might otherwise enter the waste stream.

Cleaning Products
The majority of the cleaning products used at the RBH are Dr Bronner's. Sal Suds is used for general cleaning and laundry while Castile soap is used in the kitchen and for foaming hand soap.
Truly Free Non-toxic Dishwasher Soap, a plastic-free powder, is used in the dishwasher.
Certified Virginia Green Tourism Partner
In 2024, the RBH submitted an application committing to sustainable practices. We have been working to become fully certified at the end of our 2-year commitment level cycle.
Past Projects
We changed out all showerheads to Delta In2ition which feature a pause button to reduce flow to a trickle while you lather up!
